FAQ

Please read this FAQ, before contacting SME Support Japan.

  • We offer assistance to SMEs, startups, and sole proprietors legally registered in Japan, or to individuals who are considering starting a business in Japan. We can provide overseas companies and organizations with information regarding SME support measures, but they cannot utilize our programs.

  • No, all our services and programs are offered only in Japanese. However, we can respond in English to inquiries made through the contact form on this webpage.

  • We do not conduct business matching on an individual basis, but we do operate a business matching platform called J-GoodTech where overseas companies can get in contact with Japanese SMEs. If you wish to register, you first need to obtain a recommendation from one of our counterpart organizations.
    For more information:

  • Since we are not a financial institution, we do not directly invest in companies or provide financing to them. Our funding programs only invest indirectly in Japanese SMEs, through domestic and overseas venture capitalists who provide funds to Japanese SMEs.

  • We are not a private organization. We are funded by the government and implement the SME support measures adopted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the SME Agency.

  • We do offer business creation support services. Our services for those wanting to start a business include a learning platform where we hold various events such as seminars or workshops (TIP*S), and a facility where aspiring entrepreneurs can acquire the necessary knowledge to start a business (BusiNest). These services are offered only in Japanese.
